ROMAN BUFFOONERY RANKWEIL – Another “act” in Vorarlberg in the piece of acting in regards to their golf course is sensational, but certainly not funny, the involved “actors” say.

GC Montfort-Rankweil close to Feldkirch started very ambitiously with the construction of an eighteen-hole facility in July 2005. Changes in relation with the zoning provisioning (one property in the middle of the land was free for sale and integrated into the plan only later on) and a spectacular discovery of a 10 by 10 metres big mansion from ancient roman times implicated an official stop to the construction works in September.

(We now shorten it a little bit.) Now, the excavation machines are working again and one of the owners, Richard Fischer, was even taking 40.000 Euro out his own pocket to excavate the discovery and conserve it! “In exchange for that, if there is no further official stop of the construction works, the excavated objects will be presented permanently at the club house – or not”, Fisher pushes the advertisement for the roman mansion as golf attraction. The whole project cost about six millions of Euro. 70% of this amount will be funded by enrolment fees.

The project will be well worth it, because it closes some gaps as far as golf is concerned in Vorarlberg: When you look at it from the regional point of view, it is situated centrally between the golf courses of the region Bludenz and the Bregenzerwald and the cultural metropolis of Bregenz. Topographically, this flatly designed course by Diethard Fahrenleitner as “Ländle-Fontana” (quote of a member) with lots of water and bunkers a perfect opposite pole of the alpine courses of the country. While on the site of the first nine holes excavation machinery works on Greens, bunker and water hazards, you can hear exciting “clocking” behind the container, which is used as construction office, secretary of the club and pro-shop: The driving range is already well visited! Since the publication of this article, the facility has been extended to 18 holes. Updates follow shortly.
