426 Golf Regau Attersee-Traunsee [0]

I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE – Since our first visit to GC Attersee-Traunsee one year has passed by and I have to admit: I matured by 12 months.

The walk from the club house to the first tee doesn’t seem to be that long anymore (on the way back you can check scores anyway). Many of the places, which were destroyed from last year’s flood, are astonishingly well grown again. And the Greens are not as tiny as I felt them being back then. That’s when we are in the middle of the round. With holes 1 and 2 you easily find the rhythm, because they are easy (1) and fair (2). At the 3rd hole you have to hit a peninsula Green, which should be no problem, being warmed up. After number 4 (Par 4, uphill, long as an opera of Wagner) we get an idea of what the course-designer DI Barbara Eisserer and DI Diethard Fahrenleitner want to tell us: You will have good fun here, but we are not going to make it too easy for you, ok?

Having fun: No lane is unfair or nasty, not one is so tight, that you need a shoehorn to pass, no hazard is so prominent that it kills you optically. The Greens are – as mentioned – wide enough to hit them. But be aware: In two, three years, when they have learned how to run, they will be very hot-tempered, promised.

Feel challenges
AtterseeTraunseeNEU2It is not a short course, GC Attersee-Traunsee – for most of us some of the Par 4 lanes will turn out to be Par 5’s for sure. Some doglegs need sensitive studies of the Yardage Books, so you don’t get angry after the turn. And some blind hit (for example onto the eleventh Green or in the direction of the Green on number 14/15) shouts out for knowledge of the course and return.

Good bye
The fact of the return doesn’t seem to be a problem: GC AT with its clever planning thought about that too. The facility lies very well as far as traffic is concerned, only 10 minutes off the motorway. The infrastructure is intelligent – from the practise area to the club house gastronomy – which makes every handicap-class happy. And the team around chairman Mag. Horst Watzlik has already ideas for future plans – we just say extension by nine holes and interesting tournaments together with other golf clubs at Attersee (Weyregg, from 2008 as well Nussdorf) But: It is bad waste of time just to come into this area to play golf. Summer chill out at the Traun- or Attersee is something for the lazy people, while people with stamina climb on the Traunstein and there tread themselves to the world best Kaiserschmarrn above the tree border. Additionally there is a cultural offer of highest quality, a lot of nice restaurants and a city named Gmunden, which appearance can compete with its charming italien sisters.
