425 Golf Club Bergergut [0]

A TOUCH OF AUGUSTA – 15 years ago, Günther Obermayr started his project of the PGC Kremstal in Kematen. The extension of the facility explains the change of the name.

It could be that the term “golf resort” seems to be too much for what the former PGC Kremstal can offer. But Kematen easily qualifies as familiar variety. And at the end of the day, what counts is holiday and wellness – can we agree on that? Owner and Manager Günther Obermayr invested 1.5 million Euro over the last few years to develop a new 18-plus-9-version out of the former course (nine short, tricky and nine long, wide holes didn’t harmonize very well). The actual 9-hole-variety as alternative, when tournaments take place and as sports area for the “still not too brave players”, is a mixture of old short holes and new fairways “design by Obermayr” how the manager says jokingly. (If only planer Peter Mayrhofer doesn’t hear of that) The old thirteenth hole, which now leads as number 9 uphill to the club house, is the only one, which stayed totally untouched.

There are also some Greens which are still in use (e.g. the old fifteen, which changed to Green 7). The 4 new fairways characterize the course – wide, with ponds as hazards, but they don’t interfere dramatically with the game. Hole 5, a slightly uphill Par 4 ends in front of the Scherndlgut-Hof, name giver for the nine holes. But the biggest pride of Obermayr is the Bergergut round (also named by a farm, located at the 15th tee). It starts with the former holes 1 to 9, then it continues over the former 16 to the new 11, a sporty long Par 3. From the twelfth hole onwards – a 90 degree dogleg, where a shortcut can only be done by the longest hitter – the golfer drifts off into the Seenwinkel of Kematen: Around an artificial planted pond with island Green (for hole number 12), five big fairways group. They live from the panoramic view as much as from neat details. The fruit tree row between 13 and 14 – a green landscape for hole number 14, similar to the thirteenth hole in Augusta and Obermayr’s idea. A waste area at number 15 plus an original designed Green. Hole number 16, a long and difficult Par 4, leaves this corner again – align yourself from the tee with the church tower, which can be seen at the horizon – and with the holes 17 & 18 the golfer returns onto already known space.

These two fairways existed already (they used to be 17 & 18); but they were, like some other lanes as well, slightly cosmetically enhanced. What do you remember: The bisection into the 9-hole-course Scherndlgut – a mixture of old short holes and new fairways – and the 18-hole-course Bergergut, a generous championship-course. Clubs that you will need: Every club will be needed on these 27 holes. Thanks for the Par: Hole 3/Bergergut (Par5/396 to 514 metres) is skin-tight optically and therefore not everybody’s friend. Best Birdie chance: Hole 9/Bergergut (Par4, 216 to 252 metres) is very good to chip (despite the water hazard in front of the Green). The three Par-3-lanes at Scherndlgut. Driving range: All around and in front of the club house with good practise facilities for short play (even national coach Gordon Manson praises it). A golf school with the latest instruction facilities. Journey: From A1 Exit Parking lot Allhaming (km 182,5) then continue via Allhaming and Gerersdorf.
