HEARTBEAT WITH ECHO – The golf heart jubilees: How often do you have the chance to take a breath of golf air while relaxing and while golfing (almost) sauna oil?

DolomitenGolfNEU1

Do you want to rest lying a little bit longer?” The voice sounds softly to my ear, like a short played putt. I lift my head. The golf course invitingly widens in front of me, while the masseuse put the towel across my shoulder. Should I take another round of golf after the treatment, rather jump into the hotel pool or maybe go to the sauna?

From 18 to 27
With the extension last autumn there weren’t just added nine holes in Lienz. More than that, architect Diethard Fahrenleitner has carried out a complete face lifting of the course. So, the former endless long hole 3 (Par 4, 366/411 metres) turned into 2 lovely opening holes of the “Sharp”-course (colour blue). These are much easier to play, but still have a certain bite to it: Firstly the 290/334 metres long Par 4 dogleg around a tree including bunker (see large photo), followed by a 127/147 metres long Par 3 onto the slightly elevated “old” Green with a pond to the left.

The formerly unused middle area of the golf course turned now into the heart of the course, due to the area extension to 100 acres. The pond in front of the double Green “Swiss Life” 3 (colour red) & “Clarenhof” 8 (colour green) is not just optically fantastic, but gives an astonishing heart-beat finish to these short fairways. A sportive highlight has come with the extension to the south-east on hole “Clarenhof” 5: This Par 4 with 359/399 metres has some specials to offer. Slicers will land either in the rough or in the bunker, “draw-artists” will hit the distinctive tree to the right of the fairway and as long hitter, you will go fishing if you don’t fade at the end. This is not unfair; it is just a kick of advanced course management. Fahrenleitner waived a bunker at the Greens – undulated as they are, they are challenge enough.

Picture-book (all around) envelope
The run of these three courses leads across new and “old” holes, which increases the charm for members and regulars. New players will hardly discover a difference, that’s how perfectly the new fairways and Greens fit into the whole appearance. One thing that neither one nor the other will ever get used to is the picture-book like panorama at each and every single hit – most of all at those across a water hazard, where the mountain summits romantically mirror. No matter, if you prefer the 27 holes plus the wide practising facility or the especially perfect amenities of the hotel: Your heart will beat a little bit faster here, not just because of the sea level of 650 metres.
