PROMISING – Here is straight away the „all clear“ for all fans of the Wasnerin, the former club house of the GC Ausseerland: The distinctive landmark of the club stays alive despite the massive annex of the new Falkensteiner Hotel.

alt

Even more: The constraints order, that the new hotel is not to be built higher than the Wasnerin. However – the club moves in the course of the massive reconstruction into a nice club house, which will be opened officially in June and, as the president of Aussee proudly pronounces, “owns a 360 degree panoramic view from the Loser to the Dachstein. Adding to that, we will offer a cosy open chimney and a trendy bar. All in all 70 golfers will find place in there. It will be even comfortable at the parking area, which was moved to the former tennis courts.” President Winkler is one of the driving forces, who want to lead the GC Ausseerland towards the direction of 18 holes. This is an indispensable development if you want to keep track with the plans around the golf course. In addition to the Falkensteiner Hotel, which soft opened in spring and really opened in autumn, the community of Bad Aussee plans a splendid health resort to the left of the 3rd fairway. Winkler: “With this, we will have 400 beds just next to the golf course and it will be tight only having 9 holes.”

This is why there are already hard negotiations with the farmers. The wishlist of Winkler contains at least 30 acres. With it, the holes one to four and eight and nine should be extended by three further holes. On the other side of the road there are some extensions planned as well: a further six holes are on Winkler’s list. It is a very work intense plan, because you need to satisfy all the expectations of all farmers. But the president has most of the acres already won.

Today, tomorrow

For everyone, who doesn’t know the GC Ausseerland as per yet: The street that leads to the club house and now also to the hotel, parts the nowadays 9-hole-course into 2 nice portions. It leads from the first hole downhill to the third fairway, before you have to accept some minutes of walking distance after the fourth hole in order to get to the fifth tee. After an uphill seventh fairway, a short but tricky Par 4, you turn back over the road towards the final two holes. The course finishes excitingly with a strong left dogleg Par 5, where brave golfers may attack the Green with the second hit over the out of bounds border. All in all a really varied course, in which even water hazards found their place. Now, that change comes, the infrastructure too has to be changed, Winkler tells: “Because of the construction of the hotel and club house we moved everything forward on the timeline. The driving range will be played again from the club house side in 2006 and with that, the warming up and practising once again will be a place to show off, because it leads downhill. Because of the excavation works last year, we had to turn the range around.”

In the course of the complete update of the golf course, the driving range not only got moved, but also enlarged to manage the expected more on visitors. Because even now, two thirds of members, which come to GC Ausseerland each year, is “foreigners”, Winkler explains:” In Bad Aussee there are about 5000 people who own their second home here and of which many are members in our club. With the extension to 18 holes, this number will certainly increase. However – we are prepared.”
