335 GC Breitenfurt [0]

REPAIRING ALLOWED – Too little space? The design brothers Gerold and Gunther Hauser didn’t let this excuse count, when they got to grips with the GC Breitenfurt.

BreitenfurtNEU1

Since three years you can be proud of the result (and it is getting more and more attractive, because the turf of the fairways is thickly vegetated and the Greens are more and more able to concentrate on their original work to create breaks and waves). Eight golf lanes cross on a southern slope close to the border to Vienna; the ninth lies on a clearing just separated by a row of bushes and trees (hole number 5, a medium long Par 3).

BreitenfurtNEU5The backbone of the course is the second hole, with its almost 550 metres the longest Par 5 around Vienna: It leads from the top of the hill (only the fourth Green and fifth tee are more elevated) until behind the driving range. Translated into football language you would say: From the top left corner post to the down right corner. The Hausers used the existing terrain pretty elegant. Two passages are exceptionally well planned. In the down-left corner, the sixth Green, the seventh hole (Par 3 with half island Green) and the ninth Green (also with water hazard) form an almost perfect park-similar landscape.

BreitenfurtNEU4In the top-right corner post, you find an uphill Par 4 with a blind hit to a bunkered Green and the fourth tee, which asks for a blind drive around the forest, which borders the course. Kindly, the fourth hole is a dogleg to the right, which reassures the natural slice-hitter. In regards to the demand, Breitenfurt offers golf for in between, in the morning before work, during lunch time to relax and in the evening to get rid of the daily office stress. That doesn’t necessarily mean, that it is fun to play the 18 holes. Many of us even need a second round to change the mistakes being made on the first round, because: As far as difficulty is concerned, Breitenfurt is the championship course of all 9-hole-courses.
