317 GC Golf Eldorado BW [0]

NEW NINE – In the middle of untouched nature, the new fairways make their way through this unique landscape. Golfeldorado has grown up.

Absolute tranquility an alpine-golf in the hilly part of Lower Austria – that's the golf-eldorado.

Absolute tranquility an alpine-golf in the hilly part of Lower Austria – that’s the golf-eldorado.

But it took longer than planned: the 18-hole-course should have been finished by autumn 1999, but God had upset a couple of times the plans of club president Leopold Lechner. Very strong thunder-storms washed away parts of the course again and again; the humus level had to be renewed after that every single time. But these unforeseen circumstances didn’t put off Lechner and his team and made sure, with lots of energy and stamina, that the first tournament over 18 holes took place in August 2000. The mental realization of the extension to 18 holes was born in the USA. At a visit in golf capital Myrtle Beach Leopold Lechner was so impressed by the courses in South Carolina, that an idea started to develop in his mind. I still remember very well: One time during breakfast, Lechner, who always believed that 9 holes are sufficient, suddenly put down his cup of coffee and said: “I am going to make 18 holes!”

Together with the architect DI Anton P. Reithofer, the design of the new holes was created. It wasn’t easy to fit the fairways into the hilly area of the Bucklige Welt into the existing nature. In connection with the already existing nine holes, nine completely different holes could be created on an area of 40 hectare. The only hole that was changed from the old course was hole number 5 (Par 4, 275 metres). Out of this hole a very difficult Par 5 with 449 metres length emerged. Number 5 as well changed to number 6, because in front of the first hole, a short and easy Par 3 (100 metres) as warm-up was inserted. New holes are number 7 and 8 as well as 11 to 16. The former holes 8 and 9 changed into 17 and 18.

The “Amen Corner” is situated between the 10th tee and the 12th Green. Hole number 10 (Par 4, 322 metres) used to be the 7th hole and was the so called “Car-Hole” (there used to be a car to take you back to the top). Now, straight underneath the Green, we continue to a panoramic Par 4 with a length of 332 metres. The fairway goes downhill from the tee to a Green, protected by sand bunkers and a biotope. Hole 12 (Par 4, 297 metres) leads uphill on a tight fairway. At this weak dogleg, a precise hit from the tee is most important, in order to reach the Green with the second hit. Before the reconstruction the club used to be one without sand bunkers, this feature is now one of the past. Both, at the old holes and the new ones numerous bunkers have been installed.

There is no more excuse of bad sand play by members. The tees of the existing holes were improved and renewed. Even for the eye, the “Golf Eldorado” presents itself in a new way: Flower arrangements in lovely stone ovals, a newly roofed club house terrace and a separate space for non-smokers. Also new are built alleys, on which you can move forward on the course by e-cart.
