MOUNTAIN INCLUDING VALLEY AND DRAVA – “We want to make an independent golf course out of the satellite club again“, Günter Gerhartinger from Golf-Direkt says. Therefore, from now on, Carinthians will sit once again in important management positions of the club. The direction of attack should also look differently in the near future: The aim is, with this course, to appeal those families and tourists, who search the first contact with golf.

Drautal is known as one of the most beautiful and best-maintained top 9-hole courses in Austria.

Gerhartinger: „To make this possible, we would like to use the existing infrastructure, namely three hotels on the course, and offer inexpensive high quality courses for beginners. Our credo is: Everybody should be able to afford a good game of golf. And the touristic offer certainly fits into this project. We will stir up the structure of carinthan golf courses a little bit, but competition is always good for business, so they say.” To be able to put the quality of the courses into display, Manfred Knass, first Master-Pro of Austria was taken on board: His first job is to build up a well functioning golf academy – the same one should develop likewise also in GC Böhmerwald. The tyrolian Knauss has led the well known golf academy of Bad Griesbach for 13 years, and has been trained there to be Master Pro. Knauss is one of a total of only six Master Pros (the highest education step in the golf-teaching area) in German-speaking region. Knauss‘ teaching method is based on the comprehensive principle because, so Knauss believes, disassembling the swing into individual parts does not lead to success. An important element for Knauss is also practicing directly on the course, because it is the only way to get close to real conditions as far as golf is concerned.

At the same time, a lot of money has been taken in hand, to whip the course into shape. „We have invested most of the money in a new machine park, so that the Greenkeeper can work normally again. Up to now, this was the missing part,“ thus Gerhartinger.

There were also some cosmetic interventions carried out. New smart Pre-Greens have been built on all nine holes, the sand in the bunkers have been changed and optical indispositions have been corrected. There are first reactions already: The members are delighted with the new owners and their activities.
